Harvie also writes the documentation built into VTS. “People learn by connecting new information to old,” says Harvie, “so it’s best to start with a clear example of how the information is going to be useful.” For example, in the video Configuring I/O Tags, Harvie describes how to create a complete communication chain from creating a computer port to drawing a value to a screen. Ben Gray is President of Central Texas Water Maintenance (www.ctwm.com) and has been installing and maintaining SCADA systems in Central Texas since 1998. “I began using VTS software about eight years ago.” says Gray. “There are many SCADA software providers in the marketplace, but I don't know of any that offer the outstanding technical assistance of [Trihedral’s] customer support department. So, when I saw Andrew’s "How-to Videos" on [the Trihedral] website, I was certain that they would be useful.” “I was so impressed with the video describing how to create a Modbus simulator [Creating a Virtual PLC] that I called Andrew the next day to thank him for his efforts. I immediately created my simulator and utilized it in the development of the SCADA project we were installing. All of the videos are straightforward and useful. I especially liked Using Expressions in VTScada. I have already utilized that knowledge on a couple of our installations.” Videos are not Gray’s only resource when working with VTS. “I really appreciate having the VTS Demo program and the developer and programmer manuals included with the software. I printed off the manuals and use them as study materials so I can learn at my own pace.” “I encourage anyone interested in learning VTS to view the Andrew’s videos because the time they spend watching them will be time well spent!” Harvie is currently creating a whole new video series based on VTS version 10 being released in the fall.
