Application Security must be functional without being burdensome. Each VTS application includes integrated security associated only with that application. For simplicity, the same security accounts and privileges are used across all facets of the application, from logging into the local operator workstation to VTS Internet Client connectivity and VTS Alarm Dialer access. All changes to security take effect immediately and are application wide.
VTS security is privilege-based to allow greater flexibility over security-level-based products. A set of default privileges control access to various features, such as alarm display access and alarm acknowledgement. Further privileges can be created as required to limit access to process displays and control actions (i.e. start pump).
Note: Group Management can also be added to applications to provide greater control over large applications. An example of such a system would be an application that monitors two separate plants. Operators from each plant can be grouped such that they see only the alarms and tags from their respective plants, whereas a manager may want to see information from both plants
