An effective response to a crisis often depends on your ability to remotely monitor and control your process. However, numerous page and email messages are overwhelming and laptops can be awkward and expensive.
Go wireless with WAP
Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is an open, global specification used to share Internet information over wireless phone networks.
The VTS WAP Server© is an integrated VTS component that allows you to view system status, acknowledge alarms and control equipment via custom web pages designed for WAP-enabled Internet browsers running on wireless devices such as the Blackberry™, Android™ and iPhone™ **. WAP browsers are also available for Wi-Fi devices like the iPad™ and iPod Touch™.
How do I integrate it into VTScada?
Implementing the VTS WAP Server into your system requires the following.
- A VTS WAP Server product key
- A handheld device running a WAP-enabled Internet browser **
- A wireless network account
- A dedicated IP address accessible to the internet
Which mobile Internet browsers are WAP-enabled?
- Opera Mini (iPhone) - Enabled
- Blackberry Browser - Enabled
- Android Browser - Enabled
- Safari (iPhone) - Not Enabled
- Internet Explorer - Not Enabled
- Wapzilla (iPhone) - Not Enabled
Is it secure?
Access to the WAP server is controlled with the same privilege-based user accounts maintained in the VTS Security Manager.
Note: VTS WAP Server network connections should be secured with VPN firewalls or SSL certificates. Trihedral engineers can help you with this. However, it is the responsibility of the integrator or end user to secure all of their system’s network connections.
More remote access options
The VTS WAP Server is only one of several remote access options.
** Accessing the VTS WAP Server using an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch requires a WAP-enable browser such as the free Opera Mini browser available from the Apple App Store.
