The VTS Internet Client is a concurrent 'thin' client that connects to the Internet Server via Microsoft Internet Explorer.
This is known as a 'thin' client because only a small number of files are installed on the client workstation. The client is an ActiveX add-in, which is automatically downloaded and installed on a client workstation the first time a user logs into the application. Application data and displays served through this ActiveX component.
The Internet Client displays are identical to those viewed from a 'thick' client. Standard displays are automatically converted for use by the ActiveX component, such that no further development is required.
Changes to I/O tags or displays are pushed to the client, forcing client displays to be updated immediately.
There are two ways to open the client
- Type a special URL into Internet Explorer* or click on the link in an email. (remote use)
- Open a small program added to the client computer’s desk top. (internal use)
