When developing an Internet-accessible application, proper attention should be given to its security needs. Access to an application through the VTS Internet Client requires a standard VTS user account with an Internet Access privilege. Security accounts are the same as those used to login to the HMI, thus developers only need to maintain one account per user.
VTS supports encrypted access through the use of Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificates or VPN firewalls. Either one can provide the same 128-bit security used in online banking. Such extended security is external to VTS and setup may require coordination with the customer's network administration group.
