VTS Internet Server Features / Internet Security

When developing an Internet-accessible application, proper attention should be given to its security needs. Access to an application through the VTS Internet Client requires a standard VTS user account with an Internet Access privilege. Security accounts are the same as those used to login to the HMI, thus developers only need to maintain one account per user.

Due to the low likelihood of malicious activity on monitoring and control systems, standard VTS security is often enough to ensure secure access to the application. However, VTS supports encrypted access through the user of Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificates or VPN firewalls. Such extended security is external to VTS and setup may require coordination with the customer's network administration group.
