About This Guide

Welcome to VTS and VTScada Version 9.1 for Windows XP or and WindowsVista. The VTS Developer's Guide provides VTS and VTScada developers with all the information they need in order to build fully-featured monitoring and controls systems.  Topics covered include:

The underlying architecture of VTS and VTScada.

How to use the tools in the VTS development environment.

How to create, configure and draw I/O and other tags.

How to log data, whether to files or a database.

How to configure and use VTS services such as the WAP browser

    Configuring Alarms

How to set operator privileges and secure your system against unauthorized access

How to customize VTS to meet your unique needs

How to deploy VTS in a Client/Server environment, configuring primary and backup servers.

The Guide is organized so that a new developer may start at the beginning and find everything that they need in the order that they need to know it.   For those who have never created a VTS application before, it is recommended that you read the Getting Started Guide before continuing with the Developer’s Guide.

Quick links are provided so that those with specific questions can find the information they need without hunting.

How-To examples are provided at the end of this guide for those who appreciate samples to follow as they design and build their own systems.

While the VTS Developer's Guide covers the features of VTS that you need to know in order to build applications, it does not cover the VTS scripting language. Before attempting to write script code, you should have a solid understanding of computer programming principles. If you are interested in building new development tools using the VTS scripting language, please refer to the VTS Programmer's Guide.
