Adding a New Tag

To add a new tag to your application, follow these steps:

1.   Click the Browser button in the Configuration Toolbox.

 The Tag Browser will open.

2.   Ensure that an asterisk, * is entered in the Tag Browser's Search field.

A filter in this field won’t stop you from adding a new tag, but it may interfere with your ability to see that tag in the list after it has been added.

3.   Select the tag type that you wish to create from the Types drop-down list.

Note: It is the tag type selected in the Types drop-down list that determines the type of tag that will be created when you click the Tag Browser's New button.

The Tag Browser's Areas drop-down list should show either “All” or the area you want to create the new tag in. Ensure that one or the other is set otherwise you will not see your new tag in the browser after you have created it.

4.   Click the New button. A new tag properties folder will open.

5.   Configure the tag’s properties.

Notes for every tag type are provided in Tag Types Referenced by Category.

6.   Click the OK button.

The new tag will be referenced by its Name and Description in the Tag Browser’s tag list.

If this application is a local application running on a single workstation, the operation is complete. If this application is a remote application running on multiple PCs, finish by following the next three instructions:

7.   Click the Remote Configuration button to open the Remote Configuration dialog.

8.   Locate the resource item associated with the new tag.

9.   Click the Update Item button. The data for the new tag will be propagated to all PCs running this application.

A Note on Tag Groups

If you have selected a tag group in step 3 above rather than selecting a tag type, a dialog similar to the example below will open and display a list of the types of tags that belong to the selected group.

Select the radio button corresponding to the tag type you wish to create, and then click the OK button. A new tag properties folder will open.
