Note: The following information only refers to applications that use the Alarm Dialer system (see Alarm Dialer System).
VTS logs more than just alarm data in its Alarms.log files. Also stored is data related to events concerning security, operator control actions, remote configuration, and the Alarm Dialer system.
What Alarm Dialer System Events Are Logged?
VTS logs events related to the Alarm Dialer system to the alarm history. The following actions will result in an entry in the History alarm list:
• An operator is notified by voice of one or more alarms
• An operator is notified by pager or one or more alarms
• An operator is notified by e-mail of one or more alarms
• An e-mail has not reached its destination
What Information is Logged?
For each Alarm Dialer system event in the History list, the following information is displayed:
• The name of the operator contacted (taken from the Roster tag’s contact records)
• The e-mail address for the operator contacted
• The pager terminal phone number and the pager’s phone number/PIN for the operator contacted
• The phone number for the operator contacted
• The number of alarms reported
• The number of alarms not reported (for voice calls only)
What Format Is Used in the History List for Alarm Dialer System Events?
• The priority for Alarm Dialer system-related events is always "Event"
• The Area for Alarm Dialer system-related events is always "Alarm Dialer"
• Config.ini labels are used for specific Alarm Dialer system-related event text
Examples of Alarm Dialer system-related event entries in the History list are displayed below:
Event Priority Time Date Area Message
Event Event 09:57:10 Nov 29 Alarm Dialer E-mail sent to ryan@trihedral.com with 2 alarms
Event Event 09:56:06 Nov 29 Alarm Dialer Paged 453-6487/4585041 with 2 alarms
Event Event 09:55:23 Nov 29 Alarm Dialer Called 835-1575 – 1 alarm reported, 1 not reported
Note: for pager entries, the first number is the pager terminal phone number, and the second number is the pager’s phone number/PIN. Also, the event descriptions for voice calls are slightly different than pager or e-mail calls because voice calls are interactive. The Alarm Dialer system might report all the alarms, it might only report some of the alarms before the operator hangs up, or it might report zero alarms if the operator does not enter their PIN.
Note: In the event that an e-mail notification sent by the Alarm Dialer system did not reach its destination, VTS will add an entry to the History list on the Alarm page indicating that the e-mail failed and providing an error code.
