Alarm List

The Alarm List tool in the Alarm Tools library enables you to draw a custom alarm list on a graphics page. This custom list can either supplement or override the existing alarm list on the default Alarm page.

The following image displays an example of a completely configured Alarm List dialog.

(Click title to expand text)

Name

The Name field enables you to enter a name for this custom alarm list. This name identifies this alarm list to the other tools in the Alarm Tools library.

Font

The Font field enables you to associate a font Editor tag with this alarm list. The font configured for the selected font Editor tag will be used to display the alarms and events in this alarm list. To select a font Editor tag to be associated with this alarm list, click the … button to open the Tag Browser, select a font Editor tag, and then click the "Select" button.

Note: You may choose one of the three default font Editor tags that are included with every VTS application you create, or you can create your own custom font Editor tag and assign it attributes as you require by clicking the plus button to the right of the drop-down list. Please refer to Font Tags for information on the configuration of font Editor tags.

Line Format

The Line Format field enables you to enter a "1" or a "2", indicating the amount of information you wish to be displayed in the alarm list.

If a "1" is entered in the Line Format field, t his alarm list will display:

•   the status of the alarm or event,

•   the priority of the alarm or event,

•   the time ("hh:mm:ss") and date ("Mmm dd") that each alarm or event occurred,

•   a message identifying the cause of the alarm or event (i.e. the Description property configured for each alarm tag),

•   the area in which the alarm occurred,

•   the operator who was logged on when each alarm or event occurred. This line format is the same as that used on the default Alarm page.

If a "2" is entered in the Line Format field, this alarm list will display the time ("hh:mm:ss") and date ("Mmm dd") that each alarm or event occurred, along with a message (i.e. the Description property configured for each alarm tag) identifying the cause of the alarm or event.

Note: The format of the text displayed in the Event/Status and Priority columns can be modified using Config.ini variables (see "VTS Programmer's Guide: Config.ini [SYSTEM] Section Variables for Alarms").

Background

The Background button enables you to select the background color you wish to be displayed for this alarm list. When the Background button is clicked, the Select Color palette will open to enable you to select the color you desire. The selected color will be previewed to the right of the Background" button.

Starting List

The Starting List drop-down list enables you to select the name of the alarm list that you wish to be displayed each time the page upon which this alarm list is draw is opened. You may choose from the following alarm lists:

•    Current:  Includes alarms that are either active, unacknowledged, or both (see below for definitions of the active and unacknowledged alarm lists).

•    Configured:  Includes a reference to all alarm tags that have been configured for this application.

•    History:  Displays all alarms and events that have occurred for this application, including operator control actions (e.g. output of a value to equipment), remote configuration actions (such as updating files or tags), Alarm Dialer system actions (such as the notification of operators of unacknowledged alarms by voice, pager, or e-mail), and security-related events (such as operators logging on or off).

•    Active:  Displays all alarms that are in an active state; that is, all alarms for which the condition that caused them to trigger still exists. Active alarms are also displayed in the "Current" alarm list (see above).

•    Unacknowledged:  Displays all alarms that have not yet been acknowledged, regardless as to whether or not the alarms are still in an active state. Unacknowledged alarms are also displayed in the Current alarm list (see above).

•    Disabled:  Displays all alarms that have been flagged as disabled within your application.

Note: It is recommended that you create a custom alarm list prior to creating any other objects using the tools of the Alarm Tools library.
