Application Privileges

Application privileges enable you to protect objects unique to your application from view or use by specific users; for example, you can create an application privilege that grants (or denies) operators the power to control specific equipment in that particular application, or to open and view specific pages or dialogs. Like the system privileges, application privileges can be switched on or off according to the responsibilities of different operators. VTS enables you to create up to 240 of your own application privileges.

Application privileges are primarily intended to be associated with and protect:

Application pages from opening and viewing; and

Output tags from sending output signals to control equipment.

Instructions on adding application privileges can be found in Add Application Privileges Using the Administrative Settings Dialog. Information on associating application privileges with objects can be found in Protecting Objects Using Application Privileges. Finally, granting application privileges to those users whom you wish to have access to the protected objects can be found in Add Account Dialog and in Modify Account Dialog.

Although the specific configuration of each user account, including the username, password, and all privileges (both system and application privileges), is ultimately protected in the SecMgr.dat encrypted binary file, the actual application privileges themselves are stored in the customizable SecurityManager.ini configuration file.
