Configuring VTS to auto-start further simplifies its use for operators. When you configure both VTS and your VTS application to auto-start, an operator need only turn on a workstation to access the application. This feature can also ensure that workstations are dedicated to running the VTS software and cannot be used for any other purpose.
This operation can be performed in a relatively straightforward way involving standard Windows practices. You can choose to configure VTS to auto-start for some users, but not for others; or you might wish to configure VTS to auto-start for all users. Instructions on both procedures are included below.
Configuring VTS to Auto-start for All Users
To configure VTS to auto-start for all users on a workstation:
1. Create a shortcut to the VTS.exe program (normally located in C:\VTS\).
Note: To create a shortcut, locate the VTS.exe file, right-click, and select "Create Shortcut".
2. Right-click the Windows Start button.
3. Select Open All Users. Windows Explorer will open to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu.
4. Open the Programs directory.
5. Open the Startup directory.
6. Paste the VTS.exe shortcut into the Startup directory.
VTS will automatically start on the next occasion the workstation is restarted.
Configuring VTS to Auto-start for a Selected User
To configure VTS to auto-start for a selected user on a workstation:
1. Create a shortcut to the VTS.exe program (normally located in C:\VTS\).
Note: To create a shortcut, locate the VTS.exe file, right-click, and select "Create Shortcut".
2. Right click the Windows Start button.
3. Select Explore All Users. Windows Explorer will open to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu, and will display all user directories to the left.
4. Expand the directory of the user for whom you wish VTS to auto-start.
5. Expand the Start Menu directory within the user's directory.
6. Expand the Programs directory within the user’s directory.
7. Open the Startup directory within the user’s directory.
8. Paste the VTS.exe shortcut into the user's Startup directory.
VTS will automatically start on the next occasion the selected user restarts the workstation.
