Convert the Origin Database's Data to the Destination Database

Once you have located the origin database and specified the destination database (either existing or to be automatically generated by VTS), you can begin the conversion process by clicking the Convert button.

If the destination database does not exist, VTS will request confirmation that you wish the database to be automatically generated.

Click the Yes button to have VTS create a new database file with the name and extension you specified. (Clicking the No button will halt the conversion process and allow you to search for another destination database.)

If the destination database already exists, VTS will request confirmation that you wish to add the contents of the origin database to the existing destination database.

Click the Yes button to have VTS add the contents of the origin database to the specified destination database. (Clicking the No button will halt the conversion process and allow you to specify another destination database.)

VTS converts the data from the origin database and saves it to the destination database file. Information about the conversion is displayed. An example is shown below.

The Status information in the Origin section is updated to indicate the data that was read from the origin database. In the example above, two tables and 7 records were "[READ]".

The Status information in the Destination section is updated to indicate the data that was written to the destination database. In the example above, two tables and 7 records were "[WRITTEN]". Note that the status information for both the Origin and Destination sections matches.

The ODBC Status Report section of the Database Conversion Utility displays information about the conversion of data from the origin database to the destination database including the SQL commands or queries performed, and any error code. The error code appears at the bottom of the scrollable ODBC Status Report list. If an error has occurred, the error code and an error state and message will be displayed.
