VTScada enables you to configure operator groups and command the VTScada Alarm Dialer system to contact the operators assigned to the multiple roster tags comprising these groups. The key to creating operator groups is the Area property of the roster tags.
As with all tag types, the ID tab of each roster tag's properties folder contains an Area field into which an area can be entered.
Entering the same Area for multiple roster tags enables you to group the tags together. For example, you could group together 5 roster tags, each containing 8 operator contact records, by entering, "Liftstation" or "Waste Water" in their Area field.
The benefit of configuring groups of roster tags is that an alarm (or multiple alarms) can be associated with a group, resulting in the notification of multiple operators by the Alarm Dialer system in the event that an alarm of a specific type has been triggered.
The Area of the triggered alarm is used to determine the roster group that must be contacted. To associate alarms with a group of roster tags, simply configure the alarm tag or I/O tag with built-in alarm properties with the same Area as that given to the roster group.
Note: As discussed in Hierarchy Rules for Triggered Alarms and the Alarm Dialer there are some rules that VTScada obeys when determining which roster's operators should be contacted when an alarm has been triggered in the event that the Area property of the alarm tag or I/O tag with built-in alarm properties is absent or does not match the Area of any roster tags.
Note: In the event that you wish all active rosters to be triggered for an alarm, simply configure the alarm tag (or the I/O tag with built-in alarm properties, such as an analog status, digital status, or pump status tag) with "GeneralAlarm" (no spaces) as its Area property.
Instructions on configuring a roster tag appear in Creating a Roster Tag.
Information on Triggering All Rosters for an Alarm appears in the section that follows.
