FAQ: ODBC Error on Client at Startup

(Applies only to versions of VTS prior to 8.0)

Question:       When I attempt to run my remote application on one of my clients, I receive an ODBC error on startup.

A:        ODBC errors indicate possible problems with your application's ODBC data source. To correct the problem, please follow the steps below:

1.   Stop the application on the client.

2.   Run the application on the client. If the ODBC error persists, proceed to step 3.

3.   Stop the application on the client.

4.   Select the application in the VAM's Available Applications list.

5.   Click the Properties button. The application's Application Properties dialog opens.

6.   Select the "Force Synchronization Of: Tags" checkbox.

7.   Click the OK button. The Application Properties dialog closes.

8.   Run the application on the client. If the ODBC error persists, proceed to step 9.

9.   Stop the application on the client.

10. Select the application in the VAM's Available Application's list.

11. Click the Remove button. The application is removed from the VAM's Available Applications list, and its ODBC data source is deleted from your PC. Note: When prompted as to whether you wish to delete the application directory and all of its files, click the No button; clicking the Yes button will permanently delete your application and all of its resources from your PC.

12. Click the VAM's Add New button. The Add New Application dialog opens.

13. Select the Find Existing radio button.

14. Click the OK button. The Found Applications dialog opens.

15. Enter the first 3 letters in your application directory's name, followed by an asterisk (*) in the Path field. (For example, entering "tut*" locates all applications whose application directories begin with the letters, "tut".) Note: Optionally, you may enter an asterisk (*) in the Path file to locate all available VTS applications existing within your VTS installation directory.

16. Press the Enter key on your keyboard. VTS displays all applications matching the search criteria you entered in the Path field.

17. Select your application in the Found Application dialog's list.

18. Click the OK button. The Found Application dialog closes, and your application is once again added to the VAM's list of available applications.

19. Select your application in the VAM's Available Applications list.

20. Click the Properties button. The application's Application Properties dialog opens.

21. Select the "Force Synchronization Of: Tags" checkbox.

22. Click the OK button. The Application Properties dialog closes.

23. Run the application on the client. The ODBC error should no longer appear.
