The Reset Remote Client utility is an application included with VTS that enables you to remotely reset or start a remote application on a client workstation from the primary configuration server, thereby forcing the client workstation and the server to synchronize the application's files and tags. This utility is a handy tool that can be used in situations where you are not in close proximity to the client workstation that is whose configuration files are corrupted.
In order to make use of the Reset Remote Client utility, it is first necessary to add it as a new application using the VAM. It is stored in the VTS product directory in the ResetRemClient directory.
Once you have added the Reset Remote Client utility as a new application, select it and click the Run button. The Reset Remote Client utility opens similar to the example shown below.

The Remote Applications section at the top of the Reset Remote Client utility enables you to select the remote application from a list of all remote applications that exist on this workstation, and identifies the primary configuration server for the application. In the example shown above, the selected remote application is named Networked Application Example, and its primary configuration server happens to be the workstation on which the Reset Remote Client utility is being run.
Beneath the Remote Applications section is the Potential Clients list.
The display of this list can be changed using the radio buttons that appear to its right. The table below identifies the affect each of these radio buttons has on the "Potential Clients" list.
|
Radio Button |
Display of Potential Clients List |
|
Remote Configuration Clients |
The "Remote Configuration Clients" radio button filters the "Potential Clients" list to display those client workstations that have the remote application installed. |
|
Open (Non-Client) Sockets |
The "Open (Non-Client) Sockets" radio button filters the "Potential Clients" list to display those workstations currently connected to this workstation. |
|
Closed Sockets |
The "Closed Sockets" radio button filters the "Potential Clients" list to display those workstations not connected to this workstation. |
|
All Workstations |
The All Workstations radio button filters the "Potential Clients" list to display all workstations belonging to the same network to which this workstation is a member, regardless as to whether or not they have the selected remote application installed. |
Beneath the Display radio buttons is the Reset Client/Start Client button. The label and action of this button changes depending upon the filter applied to the Potential Clients list. The button's label reads Reset Client when the Potential Clients list is filtered to display remote configuration clients (using the Remote Configuration Clients radio button). The Reset Client button can be used to stop and restart the client workstation selected in the Potential Clients list, thus forcing a synchronization of files and tags with those on the configuration server.
When the Potential Clients list is filtered using any of the other radio buttons, the label of the button reads Start Client. The Start Client button can be used to start the remote application (if it exists on the selected workstation), thus resulting in a forced synchronization of files and tags with those on the configuration server.
The Reset Remote Client utility can only be used if the workstation on which it is run is the configuration server for the selected application. If the workstation on which the Reset Remote Client utility is running is not the configuration server for the selected application, a message will appear in the Potential Clients list of the Reset Remote Client dialog.

The section that follows provides instructions on resetting a remote client using the Reset Remote Client utility.
