Fundamental Tag Features

In this section, the properties common to all tags will be described.  Later sections will describe how to work with tags and provide detailed descriptions of the many different tag types.

Tag Properties Folders

It is easy to add new tags and configure their attributes using tag properties folders.  The term “tag properties folder” refers to the set of dialog boxes that provide access to each tag instance’s properties.  By using a tag’s properties folder, you can add to or change its configuration while your application continues to run.

Each field found in a tag properties folder matches a field in the corresponding table for that tag type in Points.MDB. While you may edit the tag properties database directly, those changes will take effect only when the application is re-started.  Edits made in a tag properties folder take effect immediately.

All tag properties folders share a few common elements, regardless of the varying fields for each type of tag.  The following figure identifies some of these common elements and behaviors.

Other common elements found on tag properties folders include radio buttons, checkboxes, and lists.

The tag properties folder for each tag type is described in the sections beginning with Tag Types Referenced by Category. This information will assist you in correctly configuring your tags.
