Managing Alarms

The Actions buttons enable users to manage alarms and alarm sounds on the Alarm page. The Actions buttons are as shown:

Acknowledge All Alarms

The Ack All button can be clicked to acknowledge all alarms that have not yet been acknowledged. It is recommended that operators be trained to use the Ack button and acknowledge each alarm as it is triggered, rather than acknowledging a group of alarms so that no critical alarms are missed in the system.

Acknowledge a Selected Alarm

The Ack button can be clicked to acknowledge the currently selected alarm.

To select an alarm to be acknowledged, click on it in the alarm list. While selected, the alarm will be highlighted in blue.

An exception is the History list.  Alarms shown here cannot be selected for acknowledgement.

Note: By default, the currently sounding alarm siren is silenced when the alarm is acknowledged. You may modify this behavior by adjusting the AlmSilenceOnAck Config.ini [SYSTEM] section variable.

Silence an Alarm

The Silence button can be clicked to silence the currently sounding alarm siren. This button is often used when a user wishes to silence the currently sounding alarm siren without acknowledging the associated alarm.

Note: The AlmSilenceAllow Config.ini [SYSTEM] section variable enables you to modify the behavior of the Silence button within a networked application running on two or more PCs.

Mute All Alarms

The Mute button can be clicked to mute all alarms. This button is often used when a user wishes to halt all current and future alarm sirens. It is recommended that this button only be used by advanced users, as novice users may not realize that alarms are incoming in the absence of an alarm sound.

Note: The AlmMuteAllow Config.ini [SYSTEM] section variable enables you to modify the behavior of the Mute button within a networked application running on two or more PCs.

Information on the Config.ini variables that can be edited to change the default behaviors of the Alarm page is provided in "VTS Programmer’s Guide: Config.ini [SYSTEM] Section Variables for Alarms ".
