ODBC Data Source Report Output Format

The ODBC Data Source radio button enables you to save report data to an existing ODBC-compatible database (e.g. Microsoft Visual FoxPro, Oracle, SQL Server, etc.) using an existing ODBC data source.

Note: The ODBC-compliant database and an ODBC data source for it must exist in order for the ODBC Data Source report output option to work.

Create a New ODBC Data Source (Microsoft Windows 2000)

Before you can send report data to an existing database via an ODBC data source, the data source must exist, and must be configured to communicate with the existing database.

To create a new ODBC data source under Windows:

1.   Open the Windows, Administrative Tools folder (normally found via the Control Panel).

2.   Run the Data Sources ODBC application.

3.   Click the System DSN tab.

4.   Click the Add button. The Create New Data Source dialog opens.

5.   Select the appropriate driver required for your particular ODBC-compliant database.

6.   Click the Finish button.

A new dialog may open, depending upon the type of driver you selected in step 5 above. You will be prompted to configure a name for your new data source, and may be required to configure a series of other properties. Once you have completed the configuration of these properties, you will be returned to the System DSN tab of the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog, where the name of your new data source should appear in the list of system DSNs.

7.   Click the OK button. You may now return to the Reports page for your VTS application.

Generate a Report to an ODBC-compatible Database

To generate a report as an ODBC-compatible database:

1.   Ensure that the database to which you wish to save your report has an existing ODBC data source configured for it (instructions appear above).

2.   Configure the report type, the tags whose data you wish included in the report, and the duration for the report.

3.   Select ODBC Data Source from the Output Type drop-down list.

4.   Enter the name of your data source in the ODBC Data Source field (e.g. MyDataSource).

5.   Click the Run Report button.

Note: If you are accessing the VTS reports page using a VTS Internet Client (see Browsing VTS Applications on the Web), you will not be able to utilize the ODBC Data Source report output option, nor will you be able to use the e-mail report options, however, all other report output options (as defined in Output Formats for Reports) will be accessible.
