Remote Application Client Configuration

After creating a remote application and specifying the names of the primary configuration server and backup servers, the next step in establishing a remote application is to install that application on the client workstations (including the backup servers) that will be running the application.

Note: All clients and servers intending to run a remote application must have the same version of VTS installed.

1.   Ensure that the remote application is running on the primary configuration server.

2.   Run VTS on the client workstation.

The VAM opens.

3.   Click the "Add New" button.

The "Add New Application" dialog opens.

4.   Select the "Get From Server" radio button.

5.   Click the "OK" button.

 The "Choose Server" dialog opens.

6.   Select the name of the primary configuration server from the "Machine Name" drop-down list.

Note: You may optionally leave the "Machine Name" drop-down list set to "All available servers" to scan every server on your network for remote applications; however, if you are aware of the name of the server upon which the application resides, it is more expedient to type the name rather than scanning all servers.

7.   Click the "OK" button. The "Find Servers" dialog opens and displays the name of the selected server, the number of remote applications located on that server, and how many of those found are currently running on the selected server.

8.   Ensure that the primary configuration server is selected in the "Find Servers" list.

9.   Click the "Inquire" button.

The "Applications Available On" dialog opens and displays the remote applications for the selected workstation, along with their status.

Note: Any applications in the "Applications Available On" dialog that are marked with an asterisk already exist on the client you are currently using.

10. Select the remote application you wish to retrieve in the "Applications Available On" list.

11. Click the "Acquire" button.

Some core files for the remote application are transferred to the client workstation, and the application's name appears in the list of available applications in the client's VAM.

The section that follows identifies the core files that are transferred from the primary configuration server to a client workstation when a "Get From Server" action has been performed.
