A standard application or a layered application that has been designed to run on multiple workstations is referred to as a "remote application".

A remote application has a specified primary configuration server and backup servers, along with primary service servers and backup service servers. (See VTS Servers and Clients Defined). It has been designed to run on multiple workstations with automatic data propagation and synchronization from the primary configuration server to all clients. An entire chapter has been devoted to remote applications: Working with Remote Applications for further information.
