If your application is a custom OEM layer upon which other applications are based, extra steps are involved to ensure that the application and all applications based upon it continue to run successfully.
To change the name and path (directory name) of a custom OEM layer application upon which other applications are based, follow the steps below.
Note: If no other applications are based on this application layer, fewer steps are involved. To change the name and directory for an application layer, see Renaming a Standard Application's Directory.
1. Exit VTS (if it is currently running).
2. Navigate to the custom OEM layer's application directory (directly within the VTS product directory) using the file management utility of your choice (i.e. Windows Explorer).
3. Right-click the custom OEM layer's application directory. A Windows shortcut menu displays.
4. Select Rename from the Windows shortcut menu.
5. Rename the custom OEM layer's application
directory using valid characters. Valid characters consist of alphanumeric
characters and the dollar sign ($), decimal (.), number hatch (
) and underscore (_) characters.
6. Using the text editor of your choice, open the GDI.wif file within the custom OEM layer's application directory.
7. Enter the new application name for the custom OEM layer application on the first line in the GDI.wif file.
This name can include spaces and must obey the rules for valid characters in names.
8. Save and close the GDI.wif file for the custom OEM layer application.
9. Open the GDI.wif file for the first application that is based upon the custom OEM layer application.
10. Modify the second line with the new name of the custom OEM layer's application directory (e.g. "MyOEMLayer\").
The second line of the GDI.wif file identifies the path of the parent application layer on top of which this application is based. Be sure that the name of the custom OEM layer's application directory is identical to the one you used when renaming the custom OEM layer's application directory, including spaces.
11. Save and close the GDI.wif file for the first application that is based upon the custom OEM layer application.
12. Repeat steps 10, 11, and 12 depending upon the number of application layers that are based upon the custom OEM layer.
13. Run VTS. The VAM opens.
14. Add the renamed custom OEM layer application to the VAM just as you would any other existing application (see Adding Existing Local Applications to the VAM).
Because you did not change the path (application directory) for the application layers that are based upon the custom OEM layer, you do not need to add them to the VAM.
It is recommended that you keep the application names and the related directory names the same to make it easier for you to locate your applications.
