Responding to Alarms

Operators can respond to alarms in a variety of ways.

Responding to an Alarm Using the Alarm Page

The Alarm page displays information about all alarms that have occurred in your system.

To respond to an alarm on the Alarm page, follow the instructions below.

1.   Ensure that your application is in operational mode (i.e. the Configuration Toolbox is closed, or its No Tool is selected). You cannot respond to alarms while in development mode.

2.   Navigate to the Alarm page using the Alarm Page button in the Display Manager's title bar, or using the menu.

3.   Ensure that the alarm you want to respond to is in the list.

Click the Current or Unack button to view the unacknowledged alarms. If you are viewing the Current list, the alarms that are unacknowledged will be highlighted.

You may need to set the filters to Show All Priorities or Show All Areas.  See: Sorting and Filtering Alarms.

4.   Select the alarm you wish to acknowledge.

5.   Click the Ack button. The alarm will be acknowledged, and the alarm sound will stop.

If you are viewing the Unack list, the selected alarm will disappear from the alarm list. If you are viewing the Current list, the alarm will continue to be displayed (as the Current list displays both active and unacknowledged alarms), but will no longer be highlighted, indicating that although it has been acknowledged, the condition that caused it to trigger still exists.

Responding to an Alarm Using a Station Page (VTScada)

A station page displays information about all alarms that are associated with the selected station. You may choose to respond to alarms associated with a selected station using the station page, rather than the Alarm page. When an alarm has been triggered for a station, the centre of the associated station symbol will flash red to notify operators of the alarm condition. Additionally, an alarm siren will sound.

To respond to alarms for a given station, follow the instructions below.

1.   Ensure that your application is in operational mode (i.e. the Configuration Toolbox is closed, or its No Tool is selected). You cannot respond to alarms while in development mode.

2.   Open the appropriate station page by clicking on its flashing red station symbol. As you can see from the example below, three alarms associated with this station have been triggered, are highlighted in the alarm list, and are indicated on the drawing methods for the associated tags (these flash red to indicate unacknowledged alarms).

3.   Click the Ack Shown button. All alarms for the selected station will be acknowledged, and the alarm siren will cease.

As you can see from the example above, the alarms have been acknowledged; they are no longer highlighted in the alarm list, and the drawing methods for the associated tags have ceased flashing in red, indicating that the alarms have been acknowledged but are still active (i.e. the condition that caused them to trigger still exists).

Note: In order to remove active alarms from the alarm list, you must remedy the situation that caused the alarms to trigger.
