The Add New button allows you to retrieve a copy of a remote application from a primary configuration server and add it to the VAM.
When a remote application is running on the primary configuration server, a client can connect to that server and obtain a copy of the current application data. Once the client is running the application, the primary configuration server ensures that all clients are continually synchronized, so that every PC running the application has the same data and is running the same version of the application.
Note: Whether the remote application is a layered application (based on a custom OEM layer) or a standard application (based directly on the core VTS layer), the steps involved in retrieving the application are the same.
To retrieve an application from a primary configuration server, follow these steps:
Note: Detailed information on remote applications can be found in Introduction to Remote Applications.
1. Ensure that the application is running on the primary configuration server.
2. Run VTS on the client (the next steps are all to be performed on the client).
3. Click the VAM's Add New button. The Add New Application dialog opens.

4. Select the Get From Server radio button.
5. Click the OK button. The Choose Server dialog opens.

6. Select a server from the Machine Name drop-down list;
OR select All Available Servers to view remote applications on all available servers on the network;
OR enter the name or IP address of the server from which you wish to obtain the remote application, then press the Enter key on your keyboard to input the name or IP address.
7. Click the OK button.
The Find Servers dialog opens. VTS searches the server(s) indicated in the Machine Name drop-down list for available remote applications and displays the name(s) of the servers and the status of the application(s) found.

8. Select the workstation from which you wish to retrieve a copy of the remote application in the Find Servers dialog.
9. Click the Inquire button.
The Applications Available On dialog opens and displays the names, types, and status of the remote applications found on the selected workstation (an example is displayed below). When an asterisk (*) is displayed next to an application name, it is an indication that your workstation already has that application.

10. Select the application you wish to retrieve in the list.
11. Click the Acquire button.
A core set of application files will be transferred to your workstation's hard drive (see Core File Transference for further information on these files). The new application will be displayed in the Available Applications list in the VAM on the local client.
Note: If the remote application you are adding from the primary configuration server is a layered application, VTS will retrieve all necessary application layers for you (i.e. all application directories and their core files will be copied from the server to your workstation).
12. Ensure that the remote application is selected in the client's VAM's Available Applications list.
13. Click the Run button on the VAM.
Once the application is run on the client, VTS retrieves the remaining application data from the primary configuration server during a process known as startup synchronization to ensure that the client obtains the latest data for the application.
Information on remote applications can be found in Introduction to Remote Applications, while the process of startup synchronization is detailed in Startup Synchronization.
