Snap Grid

Toggles the alignment grid and its associated snap spacing on and off.  When you are using the snap grid, coordinates of objects that are drawn, moved, or resized will automatically align to the nearest point on the grid.

When the button is latched in, the snap grid is on (but may be invisible). When it is not latched in, the snap grid is off. By default when you create a new application and begin to configure it, the Snap Grid button is latched in, and the snap grid is on and is invisible.

Clicking the Snap Grid button when it is not latched in opens the Grid Options dialog where you can set the appearance and behavior of the snap grid before turning it on. Once you configure the settings of the Grid Options dialog and click the OK button, the snap grid will be turned on, and the Snap Grid button will be depressed in the Configuration Toolbox.

The Grid Options dialog with its default settings is as shown:

The Grid Options dialog allows you to:

     Set the horizontal and vertical spacing of the points on the grid (X spacing and Y spacing). Note that the lowest possible value that will not result in a “Grid too dense to be displayed” message is 4.

     Set the grid to be visible or invisible;

     Set the grid color; and

     Specify the frequency of the dots of the visible grid relative to the snap spacing points.

Note: You can also customize the behavior of the Snap Grid tool using variables in your application's Config.ini file. For further information, see the VTS Programmer's Guide: Config.ini [SYSTEM] Section Settings for the Snap Grid.
