Tag Names must be Unique

The Name property is used as the primary key for each tag table in the tag properties database; therefore, you cannot create tags with duplicate names. Nor can you configure tags with the same name any of the tables in the tag properties database.

To help avoid the creation of tags with duplicate names, VTS will alert you with a dialog similar to the one shown if you inadvertently enter a duplicate tag name using the tag properties folders.

 

When you click the Close button, you will be returned to the tag properties folder where you must enter a new unique name in the Name field.

In the event that you have modified the tag properties database offline, VTS will detect duplicate tag names and alert you with a dialog similar to the one shown in the following image.

 

As shown, the offending tag will not be started. If you encounter this situation, you should stop your application, open the tag properties database, and enter a unique name for the tag in the Name field. You can then restart your application.
