Tag Names Should Follow a Consistent and Meaningful Naming Convention

Some foresight is often required prior to the creation of your applications and the tags that comprise them. When you are naming your tags, it is important to use consistency. A combination of letters and numbers that are meaningful are often used. For example, if you had a series of stations, each with several digital output tags, you may wish to use the station name or number, and the output address for the tag as the basis for the name of each tag.

Another example of a suitable naming convention might be the abbreviation of the type of data or tag type, followed by an abbreviation or number indicating the equipment or process the tag represents, followed by an incremental number to ensure that no two tag names are duplicated.

Whatever the naming convention, the choice is up to you; however, be mindful of the possibility of duplicate tag names, and take measures to avoid this circumstance.
