Because it is the main record of all application code files, updating the "AppMod.src" root file will require that all workstations running the remote application restart the application. Workstations will be unable to configure until they have been restarted (and therefore resynchronized).
VTS does not permit the use of the "Update All" button when the "AppMod.src" file is locked. You must always update the "AppMod.src" file first, before you are permitted to update the remaining locked items.
If you have a lock only on "AppMod.src", and wish to update it, select the "AppMod.src" resource item in the "Remote Configuration" dialog, then click the "Update Item" button. You will be presented with the following dialog that asks whether you would like to continue.

Clicking OK will cause all other workstations running the application to be prompted to restart. All workstations will be unable to proceed with configuration until they have restarted.
Clicking Cancel stops the operation. The file AppMod.SRC will remain locked.
If you have chosen to continue to update the AppMod.src file by clicking the OK button, the message dialog below will appear on your workstation:

This message informs users that, because the AppMod.src application source file has been updated, the application must be stopped, recompiled, and restarted.
It is recommended that you stop the application on the primary configuration server, recompile the application to ensure there are no errors, and then restart the application. The client workstations need only stop the application and restart. As they begin to startup, they will automatically synchronize with the recompiled and updated data on the primary configuration server.
Note: The configuration toolbox will automatically close when you've updated the AppMod.src file. Any attempt to configure the remote application at this point will result in the above dialog appearing. In essence, you are banned from any editing until you've stopped, compiled the application, and restarted.
Instructions on recompiling a VTS application can be found in the topic: Compiling an Application.
Should you attempt to click the "Update All" button when the "AppMod.src" file is locked, you will receive an error message. Information on this dialog is provided below.
Update All Resource Items Including AppMod.src
When multiple resource items including AppMod.src are locked and you click the Update Al" button, the following message dialog will appear on your workstation:

This dialog message is informing you that because your workstation has locked the AppMod.src file, you must first update it alone using the Update Item button before you can update the other files locked by your workstation.
If you wish to continue by updating the AppMod.src file, and all other locked resource files, follow the steps below:
1. Select the AppMod.src file in the Remote Configuration dialog.
2. Click the Update Item button. The dialog shown below is displayed.

3. Click the OK button. The dialog shown below is displayed, indicating that the application must now be stopped, recompiled, and then restarted before further modifications can be made.

4. Click the Close button. The dialog closes.
5. Stop the application using the VAM.
6. Click the Compile button. The dialog shown below is displayed, indicating that the application has been compiled and the layers have been updated. This dialog will close once the update is complete.

7. Click the Run button to run the application.
The application has now been compiled and will startup. Once the application has started up on the primary configuration server, client workstations will be able to restart their applications, thereby synchronizing with the updated data on the primary configuration server.
Open the Remote Configuration dialog. The locked resource items continue to display in the Remote Configuration dialog.
Click the Update All button. The remaining resource items are updated, and the data will be propagated across the network to all client workstations running the application.
