The ActiveX component has a very small footprint and will run adequately on older computers. The minimum specification recommended is:
• Window XP or Vista;
• Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 or higher;
• JavaScript enabled;
• Ability to download and install signed ActiveX components;
• It is advisable to enable HTTP 1.1 within Microsoft Internet Explorer (see Enable HTTP 1.1 in Microsoft Internet Explorer).
VICs do not require that the VTS software be installed; rather, the ActiveX component will be downloaded from the VTS/IS and run, providing access to the application.
The ActiveX component is equally able to run in both LAN and WAN environments, and is particularly suited to business-use computers on which the user has a desire to periodically monitor the state of an industrial process. As the user base permitted to access a server application and the user privileges are restricted by the Security Manager and Internet Client configuration options, it presents a safe environment for such monitoring activities.
