Throughout this guide, you will encounter numerous references to "VTS services". VTS services are special software components that provide and control a specific group of VTS functions and activities. VTS includes the following services:
Alarm Manager: The Alarm Manager service is responsible for the management of the alarm lists for your application. An entire chapter of this document discusses the Alarm Manager. Please refer to Alarms, Events, and Notifications.
Color Manager: The Color Manager manages the VTS color palette. It suggests a color for new colorless pens while taking the background color and the color of other pens into account.
Display Manager: The Display Manager manages the display of VTS applications. The Display Manager is discussed in greater detail in the chapter: Developing VTS Applications.
Edit Lockout Manager: The Edit Lockout Manager manages the VTS locking scheme for remote applications. Information on the VTS locking scheme and the Edit Lockout Manager can be found in the topic Remote Configuration and the VTS Locking Scheme, and in Remote Configuration Dialog
Expression Manager: The Expression Manager manages the creation, deletion, and spawning of temporary modules corresponding to lines of script entered by users as tag parameters.
Log Manager: The Log Manager acts as an RPC service to allow one server to log data while clients access this data from the designated server. Information on the log manager and data logging is provided in the topic Logging and Plotting Data .
Modem Manager: The Modem Manager handles pooling modems and incoming calls. Information on the Modem Manager can be found in the topic Working with Modems .
RPC Manager: The RPC Manager is used to connect to the system remote procedure call manager. Information on the RPC Manager can be found in the topic RPC Manager Service.
Security Manager: The Security Manager manages the security for VTS applications. Information on the Security Manager can be found in the topic Working with Security.
Trace Manager: The Trace Manager connects to the system Trace Manager.
Each of the VTS services is discussed in this guide in the sections indicated. It should be noted that for remote applications, it is possible to configure different servers to manage these services, thereby sharing out the workload.
