User privileges are a set of rules that permit or deny access to features of your application. User privileges are assigned to each user's account, according to the user's assigned tasks and responsibilities.
Although all user privileges are specific to the application in which you set them, they can be divided into two categories:
• System privileges; and
• Application privileges.
System Privileges
System privileges are the basic built-in privileges that are available across all standard VTS applications. There are 34 standard system privileges. These prevent or enable access to features such as: application configuration; page or tag addition, modification, and deletion; closing the application; and acknowledging and disabling alarms.
Application Privileges
VTS enables you to establish up to 240 application privileges for each of your applications to control access to specific elements or processes. For example, you can create application privileges to protect specific pages from unauthorized access, or you can protect specific output tags in such a way that certain users cannot use them to operate controls.
In this lesson, you will create user accounts, assign system privileges, and create and assign custom application privileges.
