Each new standard application you create is in an unsecured state until the first time you log on. This enables you to have full access to all the features of VTS, so that you can successfully complete your application.
The first time you logon to your application, the application becomes secure, and you (and your users) must logon to the application every subsequent time it runs.
It is recommended that you log on and create user accounts only at the very end of the application design and development process. This will save you the trouble of having to logon to the application each time you run it.
A default user account with a limited number of privileges has been configured for use with each new application you create. This default account provides you with enough liberty to modify its privileges and create new user accounts. We will be using the default user account to explore the security features of VTS.
1. Click the Logon button in the Display Manager's title bar.
The Please Logon dialog box opens. (
2. Enter "Manager1" in the Username field.
This is the username for the default user account that has been provided for you.
3. Enter "Manager1" in the Password field.
This is the password for the default user account. (Note that the username and password are not case sensitive. "MANAGER1", "manager1", and "Manager1" are correct entries.) The Please Logon dialog box now appears like the one shown below.

4. Click the OK button.
The Logon button is now labeled "Manager1", to indicate that the user Manager1 is logged on to the system. The security system is now enabled for the tutorial application.

Figure 183
Note that the Configure button has vanished. This is because the Manager1 account does not have configuration privileges.
5. Click the Manager1 button. The Options dialog appears as shown in Figure 184.

Figure 184
Note that the number of command buttons available on the Options dialog will change according to the privileges of the user who is logged on. By default, the Manager1 account does not have full administration privileges.
6. Click the Users button on the Options dialog.
The Accounts dialog opens as shown in Figure 185.

Figure 185
Unlike the Options dialog, the Accounts dialog does not change in appearance or functionality according to the privileges of the user who is logged on.
7. Select Manager1 in the accounts list.
8. Click the Modify button.
The Modify Account dialog opens as shown in Figure 186.

Figure 186
9. Click the All Privileges checkbox to grant all available privileges to the Manager1 account. This will provide you with full access to the tutorial application.
Note: Granting all privileges to Manager1 is a shortcut for the convenience of this tutorial. Under standard procedures, the only thing you should change for Manager1 is the account password – and that should be done immediately. New user accounts should then be created with privileges granted according to need.
10. Click the OK button to save these settings and return to the Accounts dialog.
11. Click the Close button on the Accounts dialog. Now that we have added privileges to the Manager1 account, we will see what effect these changes have had to the Options dialog box.
12. Click the Manager1 button in the Display Manager's title bar. The Options dialog opens as shown in Figure 187.

Figure 187
Note that the appearance (and functionality) of the Options dialog has changed now that we have granted the Manager1 account the full complement of system privileges. We now see all the available features of the Options dialog.
As you complete the exercises that follow, you will become more familiar with the Options dialog and its features.
