There is another situation that you may encounter while working with your completed application. You may wish to deploy the application to another workstation that is not networked with your current workstation. This involves a process of installing the same version of VTS on the second workstation, then copying your backup directories to the product directory on the second workstation.
This process is somewhat more complicated for networked applications. Please refer to the VTS Developer's Guide for complete instructions.
Skills Achieved in Lesson 17
By completing Lesson 17, you learned the following:
• Backing up your applications is an important task that you should not ignore. You should do so whenever you make configuration changes or major modifications to the application.
• If your application is based on another application, both application directories must be backed up.
• To find out if your application is based on another application, open the Application Properties folder for your application. If "Standard Application" appears in the Type field, your application is based on the VTS layer and you need only backup your application directory. If the name of another application appears in the Type field, your application is based on another application layer and you need to backup both application directories.
• The process involved in restoring applications is relatively simple for standard non-networked applications. Networked applications are more complicated. Please consult your VTS Developer's Guide for information on networked and more complex layered applications.
