4.4 On Your Own

Using the skills and knowledge you have developed up to this point, and the information in our Tag Table (see Create a Tag Table), create a second analog input tag to represent the booster tank pressure. As per the Tag Table, the following information is required for the new analog input tag.

Name: AI20_2

Area: Tank

Description:  Booster Tank Pressure

Address: 40002

Engineering Units: psi

Scaled Process Max: 200

Configure all the necessary properties for the tag, including the correct I/O Device property, and Scan Interval. Do not forget to press the Enter key to set each value in its related field.

Once you have configured the tag successfully, use the "Numeric Value" tag drawing method display the pressure for the booster tank. Place the resulting object above the booster tank to the right as displayed below.

Experiment with different settings for the Numeric Value tag drawing method until you find a display that you like.

Note: If you wish to modify the settings for an object at any time while the application is in design mode, simply right-click the object; its graphic editor dialog will open and allow you to change its settings.

Assistance for the completion of this On Your Own section is provided in Solution for 4.4 On Your Own Section.

After completing the On Your Own exercise, your Booster Station application page should now look similar to Figure 48.

Skills Achieved in Lesson 4

You achieved the following skills and knowledge in Lesson 4:

You learned about the static equipment graphics that are available in VTS, including the fact that the graphics are arranged by group to help you to locate them more quickly.

Each of the graphic editor dialogs enable you to configure the properties and/or appearance and/or behavior of the tool prior to using it.

When the application is in design mode, each object that you've placed on the page can be right-clicked to access its graphic editor dialog to change its appearance or behavior.

You learned about the manner in which VTS layers graphic objects on the page (from back to front, or top to bottom, with each successive object being placed on top of the objects drawn before it).

The position in which objects fall can be changed using the Send to Back button. The Send to Back button moves objects to the back layer of the object stack.

When several objects will always be used together to represent a single piece of equipment, they can be joined together using the Group command.

You learned about the Numeric Value tag drawing method for analog input tags.
