9.4 Using the Text Change Tag Drawing Method

In addition to knowing the status of the booster pump, it is also necessary for operators to know whether its mode is currently set to auto or manual.  The Text Change drawing method will be the best tool to show this.

The "Booster Pump Control" page and the tag browser should still be open on the screen. If you've closed them, re-open them.

1.  Select "DI10_2 Booster Pump Mode" from the tag list of the tag browser.

2.  Click the Draw button. The digital input tag drawing methods are displayed.

3.  Click the Text Change button.

A sample text, showing the current state of the booster pump, will be attached to the cursor.  Place it on the Booster Pump Control page below the pump status indicator.  The Graphic Editor for the text change method will open. (Figure 112)

Figure 112

The Text Change graphic editor dialog provides the option of selecting a font style tag to determine appearance of the finished text change object.

In each of the different text fields, you can enter a label to be displayed for each value of the tag (and therefore, the status of the associated equipment).

By default, VTS displays "Off" for a value of "0", and "On" for a value of "1".  The colors shown will be used for the display of the label.

In this application, we are using the text change object to indicate the value of the tag, and therefore the mode (auto or manual) of the booster pump. There is no need for the color of the text object to change with the state of the tag, as the text itself will clearly identify the mode of the booster pump. Therefore, we will set the color for the applicable states (State 0 and State 1) to blue. Remember that, according to our system plan, black is reserved for labels and invalid colors.

4.  Select "EquipmentLabel" from the Font tag selector.

We will use our specially created font for the text change object.

5.  Enter "Auto" in the State 0 Text field since a value of "0" indicates that the equipment is in auto mode.

6.  Enter "Manual" in the State 1 field, as a value of "1" indicates that the equipment is in manual mode.

7.  Click the State 0 Color button. The Select Color dialog opens.

8.  Select a bright blue color for the State 0 Color.

9.  Click the OK button. The blue color is displayed for the State 0 text.

10. Click the State 1 Color button. The Select Color dialog opens.

11. Select the same bright blue color for the State 1 Color.

12. The Text Change Style dialog should now look like Figure 113.

13. Click the OK button.

The "Booster Pump Control" page should now appear similar to Figure 114.

As with all new tag drawing methods, the text change object has a question mark to indicate that the data has not yet been tested or validated. These question marks can be removed once the system is commissioned.
