Lesson 12: Logging and Plotting Tag Data

Objectives:

      Learn about the default Historical Data Viewer page;

      Add a logger tag to the application; and

      Plot and export tag data, and establish pen groups.

Lesson 12 Overview

VTS provides a specialized tag type whose role it is to record incoming or outgoing data to disk. A logger tag can monitor the changing values of any basic input/output tag (or any tag with a numeric value for that matter) and can save this data to a file on your hard drive. This data can then be plotted on the Historical Data Viewer page so that operators can review the historical data on a graph and can determine trends over time.

Before adding logger tags to the application, it is worthwhile to first examine the Historical Data Viewer page and learn about its features.
