Lesson 13: Alarms and Alarm Management

Objectives:

      Learn about the default VTS Alarm page;

      Add alarm tags to the application; and

      Manage alarms.

Lesson 13 Overview

In this lesson, you will explore the default Alarm page and its operation, from creating alarm tags to managing alarms.

According to the system plan, the application requires two alarm tags to monitor the level of water in the booster tank. The client has, "…specified the need for an urgent warning when the booster tank level drops below 30 inches, and a second critical warning when the booster tank drops below 20 inches so that operators can respond to the situation." In the exercises that follow, you will create 2 alarm tags: one to trigger when the booster tank level drops below 30 inches, and the other to signal when the booster tank level drops below 20 inches.

Just as logger tags monitor another tag and record that tag's data, an alarm tag monitors another tag and awaits a specific user-defined value. When the value occurs, the alarm is triggered.

In the exercises that follow, you will first create alarm tags, and then test the alarm system and explore the Alarm page.
