In Lesson 1, you saw the steps necessary to establish a new VTS application. You learned about the New Applications Properties dialog, and the properties required for a new application.
After the application was created you learned how to run it from the VTS Application Manager (VAM), and you observed the appearance and behavior of a newly created application.
You learned how to open the Configuration Toolbox and how to access its tools. Finally, you learned about the Page Properties tool and how to view and change the properties of a selected application page, including changing the background color.
As you proceed from this lesson, you take the knowledge, skills and principles outlined below with you.
Skills Achieved in Lesson 1
You achieved the following skills and knowledge in Lesson 1:
• When creating a new application, you provide a title upon which the application's directory is based. You also provide a title for your initial application page. Most importantly, you establish the type of application you are building using the Type drop-down list in the New Application Properties dialog;
• Your application is in operation mode whenever the Configuration Toolbox is closed. Once the Configuration Toolbox is opened, the application is placed in design mode;
• Tooltips appear over the buttons in the Configuration Toolbox to help you determine which buttons open which tools;
• VTS automatically establishes a default Alarm page, Reports page, and a Historical Data Viewer page when you create a new application;
• The Library tool is the device used to create new application pages for your application and to modify the properties of existing application pages;
• When you open a color palette, it is initially in free color mode. You can select any displayed color by moving the mouse pointer across the screen. Once you select a color, that color is set in the palette's Sample area; however, you can continue to change the set color by clicking other colors in the palette; and
• Background colors for application pages should be kept neutral.
