Terminology Used in This Guide

Throughout this guide, several basic terms are frequently used. For your convenience, these terms are identified below.

VTS Program

The terms "VTS program" and/or "VTS" refer to the Visual Tag System (VTS) software as a package. VTS developers and programmers use the application development tools and the scripting language built-into VTS to create customized applications.

VTS Application

VTS applications are customized projects that are created for individual monitoring and control systems using the tools made available in the VTS program.

Operation Mode

The term "operation mode" is used to describe the state of a VTS application when it is running, displaying data in real-time, and enabling operators to monitor and control the equipment and systems being represented by their VTS application.

Design Mode

The term "design mode" is used to describe the state of a VTS application when it is being edited or modified by a VTS developer (i.e. the operator interface is being built, tags are being added, security features are being installed, and so forth).

Tags

Tags are the basic building blocks of VTS applications. Tags are software components that mirror objects in the real world (such as the equipment that comprises your physical system). As you will experience in the tutorial, VTS provides you with the tools and dialogs you need to develop and draw working tags rapidly.
