Disabling and Enabling Alarms from the Alarm Page

In every SCADA system, there will be times when equipment must be taken offline for maintenance or repair. If the equipment's processes have alarms configured, when the equipment is removed from the system, the alarms will trigger in the equipment's absence.

VTS enables you to disable the alarms for such occasions. Instructions for doing so follow.

Note: Alarms can also be enabled or disabled from the application page where their associated equipment process graphic object appears. Information is provided in Disable Alarm or Alarm Disable Shortcut Menu Option.

Disable Alarms from the Alarm Page

There are several ways to disable an alarm. One way is by clicking the object on your application page representing the equipment process, and then selecting the "Disable Alarm" (or "Alarm Disable") option, as discussed in Disable Alarm or Alarm Disable Shortcut Menu Option. Another way is using the alarm list:

1.  Select the alarm you wish to disable in the alarm list. The alarm is highlighted in navy blue.

2.  Right-click the selected alarm. The shortcut menu opens.

3.  Select the "Alarm Disable" option.

The alarm is removed from the Current, Active, and Unack alarm lists, and is placed in the Disabled alarm list. Disabled alarms are highlighted in purple to make them easy to identify.

Enable Alarms from the Alarm Page

Just as there are several ways to disable an alarm, there are several ways to re-enable it. One way is by clicking the object on your application page representing the equipment process, and then selecting the "Disable Alarm" (or "Alarm Disable") option, as discussed in Disable Alarm or Alarm Disable Shortcut Menu Option. Another way is using the alarm list:

1.  Click the Disabled List Options button. All disabled alarms appear highlighted in purple in the Disabled list.

2.  Select the alarm you wish to enable in the alarm list. The alarm is highlighted in navy blue.

3.  Right-click the selected alarm. The shortcut menu opens. The "Alarm Disable" option has a checkmark beside it to indicate that the alarm is currently disabled.

4.  Select the "Alarm Disable" option. The checkmark is removed from the "Alarm Disable" shortcut menu option.

If the alarm is active, unacknowledged, or both, the alarm is returned to the Current, Active, and Unack alarm lists, and is removed from the Disabled alarm list.
