This section is provided to introduce you to the various ways in which incoming data may appear on the pages of your application.
Equipment Bitmaps:
Tag data is often portrayed using equipment bitmaps that help you to associate the equipment in your system with the data being displayed on your screen. Often your entire equipment layout is replicated on the pages of your application. In the example to the left, the green indicator in the center of the pump and motor graphics changes from green to red as the status of the equipment changes from on to off. |
Numeric or Text Fields
Another common way to represent tag data is via numeric or text fields. Numeric fields display the value of equipment, such as the pressure, level, speed, etc., while text fields display the mode or status of the equipment, such as "off" or "on", "running" or "stopped", "open" or "closed". |
Colored Symbols
Yet another way in which tag data is relayed is using color symbols. Color symbols change according to the status or mode of the equipment. They often indicate when the equipment is experiencing an alarm condition by flashing or displaying red. In the examples to the left, we see two colored indicator squares. The green one could be displaying a normal state, or an "on" state, while the red one could be displaying an alarm state, or an "off" state, depending upon the context in which they are displayed. The indictor circles displayed on the map mark the position of stations in the system, while indicating the condition at each station by changing in color and appearance. |
The section that follows identifies some of the ways that you can output data to your equipment.
