VTS and input tags gather incoming data from the equipment. In the image displayed above, the tank's gauge provides a level reading. This data is passed to the I/O device, which passes the data through the computer's serial port to the serial port tag. The serial port tag passes the data on to the I/O device driver tag, which passes the data on to the analog input tag representing the tank level. The analog input tag can display this data for the operator in the form of a numeral, a meter, or an animated bar.
The reverse is true when commands are sent from VTS to the equipment. The section that follows provides information on the transfer of data from your VTS application to your I/O device.
