Modify Digital Pen Properties

The Historical Data Viewer page allows you to modify the properties of the pens plotting digital data on the Historical Data Viewer page's graph. The properties of digital pens that may be modified are:

      Minimum and maximum scale range values

      Whether or not the minimum and maximum scale ranges are displayed along the graph's y-axis

      The color associated with the selected digital pen's plot

      The line style and width associated with the selected digital pen's plot

      Whether or not a plot line should be displayed on the graph for the selected digital pen

      The data to be displayed in the pen legend (as follows):

      Description (of the digital tag whose data is being plotted)

      Value (of the digital tag whose data is being plotted)

      Minimum (the minimum value for this digital within the time period configured for the graph)

      Maximum (the maximum value for this digital within the time period configured for the graph)

      Average (the average value for this digital within the time period configured for the graph)

      Number of Starts (the number of times this digital went from "0" to "1" within the time period configured for the graph)

      On Time (the amount of time this digital has had a value of "1" within the time period configured for the graph)

      Low Scale Range (the low scale range for this digital)

      High Scale Range (the high scale range for this digital)

Note: To modify the properties of pens plotting analog data, please refer to Modify Analog Pen Properties. To modify the properties of pens associated with notebooks, please refer to Modify Notebook and Note Properties.

To modify the properties of a pen plotting digital data:

1.  Select the digital pen whose properties you wish to modify in the legend. (A rectangle will appear around the pen to indicate that it has been selected.)

2.  Right-click the digital pen. A shortcut menu similar to the example shown below is displayed.

3.  Click the Properties shortcut menu item as indicated above. The Pen Properties dialog opens similar to the example displayed below.

4.  Modify the properties for the selected digital pen according to your requirements. (The table below will assist you in determining what the elements of the Pen Properties dialog do.)

5.  Click the OK button. The Pen Properties dialog will close, and the appearance of the selected digital pen will change according to the modifications you have made.

 

The table below identifies the elements of the Pen Properties dialog for digital pens.

 

Digital Pen Properties Element

Description

Min

The Min field enables you to enter the minimum scale range value you wish to be displayed on the graph for the selected digital pen.

Max

The Max field enables you to enter the maximum scale range value you wish to be displayed on the graph for the selected digital pen.

Show Scales

The Show Scales checkbox enables you to indicate whether or not you wish the minimum and maximum scale values configured for this digital pen to be displayed along the y-axis of the graph.

If the Show Scales check box is selected, then the configured scale range will be displayed along the graph's y-axis.

If the Show Scales checkbox is not selected, the configured scale range will not be displayed along the graph's y-axis.

Note: The shortcut menu for a selected digital pen enables you to toggle the setting of the Show Scales checkbox between selected and not selected; simply select the pen in the pen legend, right-click to open the shortcut menu, then select the Show Scales shortcut menu item to toggle it.

Color

The Color button opens the Select Color palette that enables you to select a new color in which you wish the data associated with this digital pen to be displayed.

Style

The Style spinbox enables you to select a new line style in which you wish the data associated with this digital pen to be plotted. There are 5 available line styles from which to choose; a preview of these is displayed to the right of the spinbox.

Width

The Width spinbox enables you to select a new line width in which you wish the data associated with this digital pen to be plotted. There are 9 available line widths from which to choose; a preview of these is displayed to the right of the spinbox.

Show Pen

The Show Pen checkbox enables you to specify whether or not you wish the data being plotted for this pen to be displayed using a plot line on the graph.

If the Show Pen checkbox is selected, the data for this pen will be displayed using a plot line on the graph.

If the Show Pen checkbox is not selected, the data for this pen will not be displayed using a plot line on the graph.

Note: The shortcut menu for a selected digital pen enables you to toggle the setting of the Show Pen checkbox between selected and not selected; simply select the digital pen in the legend, right-click to open the shortcut menu, then select the Show Pen shortcut menu item to toggle it.

Description

The Description checkbox enables you to specify whether or not you wish the description configured for the digital tag associated with the selected pen to be displayed in the legend.

If the Description checkbox is selected, the description for the digital tag associated with the selected pen will be displayed in the legend.

If the Description checkbox is not selected, the description for the digital tag associated with the selected pen will not be displayed in the legend.

Note: The shortcut menu for a selected digital pen enables you to toggle the setting of the Description checkbox between selected and not selected; simply select the digital pen in the legend, right-click to open the shortcut menu, then select the Description shortcut menu item to toggle it.

Value

The Value checkbox enables you to indicate whether or not you wish the value for the digital tag associated with the selected pen to be displayed in the legend.

If the Value checkbox is selected, the value for the digital tag associated with the selected pen will be displayed in the legend.

If the Value checkbox is not selected, the value for the digital tag associated with the selected pen will not be displayed in the legend.

Minimum

The Minimum checkbox enables you to specify whether or not you wish the minimum value recorded for the digital tag associated with the selected pen (within the configured time period) to be displayed in the legend.

If the Minimum checkbox is selected, the minimum value recorded for the digital tag associated with the selected pen will be displayed in the legend.

If the Minimum checkbox is not selected, the minimum value recorded for the digital tag associated with the selected pen will not be displayed in the legend.

Note: The shortcut menu for a selected digital pen enables you to toggle the setting of the Minimum checkbox between selected and not selected; simply select the digital pen in the legend, right-click to open the shortcut menu, then select the Minimum shortcut menu item to toggle it.

Maximum

The Maximum checkbox enables you to specify whether or not you wish the maximum value recorded for the digital tag associated with the selected pen (within the configured time period) to be displayed in the legend.

If the Maximum checkbox is selected, the maximum value recorded for the digital tag associated with the selected pen will be displayed in the legend.

If the Maximum checkbox is not selected, the maximum value recorded for the digital tag associated with the selected pen will not be displayed in the legend.

Note: The shortcut menu for a selected digital pen enables you to toggle the setting of the Maximum checkbox between selected and not selected; simply select the digital pen in the legend, right-click to open the shortcut menu, then select the Maximum shortcut menu item to toggle it.

Average

The Average checkbox enables you to specify whether or not you wish the average value recorded for the digital tag associated with the selected pen (within the configured time period) to be displayed in the legend.

If the Average checkbox is selected, the average value recorded for the digital tag associated with the selected pen will be displayed in the legend.

If the Average checkbox is not selected, the average value recorded for the digital tag associated with the selected pen will not be displayed in the legend.

Note: The shortcut menu for a selected digital pen enables you to toggle the setting of the Average checkbox between selected and not selected; simply select the digital pen in the legend, right-click to open the shortcut menu, then select the Average shortcut menu item to toggle it.

Number of Starts

The Number of Starts checkbox enables you to specify whether or not you wish the number of times the digital tag associated with this pen switched from 0 ot 1 (indicating the number of times the associated equipment process started) within the time period configured for the graph displayed in the legend.

If the Number of Starts checkbox is selected, the number of times the associated digital tag switched from a value of 0 to 1 will be displayed in the legend.

If the Number of Starts checkbox is not selected, the number of times the associated digital tag switched from a value of 0 to 1 will not be displayed in the legend.

Note: The shortcut menu for a selected digital pen enables you to toggle the setting of the Number of Starts checkbox between selected and not selected; simply select the digital pen in the legend, right-click to open the shortcut menu, then select the Number of Starts shortcut menu item to toggle it.

On Time

The On Time checkbox enables you to specify whether or not you wish the amount of time that the digital tag associated with this pen was on (i.e. had a value of 1) within the time period configured for the graph displayed in the legend.

If the On Time checkbox is selected, the amount of time the associated digital tag has been on will be displayed in the legend.

If the On Time checkbox is not selected, the amount of time the associated digital tag has been on will not be displayed in the legend.

Note: The shortcut menu for a selected digital pen enables you to toggle the setting of the On Time checkbox between selected and not selected; simply select the digital pen in the legend, right-click to open the shortcut menu, then select the On Time shortcut menu item to toggle it.

Low Scale Range

The Low Scale Range checkbox enables you to specify whether or not you wish the low scale range configured for the selected pen to be displayed in the legend.

If the Low Scale Range checkbox is selected, the low scale range configured for this pen will be displayed in the pen legend.

If the Low Scale Range checkbox is not selected, the low scale range configured for this pen will not be displayed in the pen legend.

Note: The shortcut menu for a selected digital pen enables you to toggle the setting of the Low Scale Range checkbox between selected and not selected; simply select the digital pen in the legend, right-click to open the shortcut menu, then select the Low Scale Range shortcut menu item to toggle it.

High Scale Range

The High Scale Range checkbox enables you to specify whether or not you wish the high scale range configured for the selected pen to be displayed in the legend.

If the High Scale Range checkbox is selected, the high scale range configured for this pen will be displayed in the pen legend.

If the High Scale Range checkbox is not selected, the high scale range configured for this pen will not be displayed in the pen legend.

Note: The shortcut menu for a selected digital pen enables you to toggle the setting of the High Scale Range checkbox between selected and not selected; simply select the digital pen in the legend, right-click to open the shortcut menu, then select the High Scale Range shortcut menu item to toggle it.

OK

The OK button saves the modifications to the selected digital pen's properties, and its appearance will adjust accordingly.
