Tag Properties

Tag properties are those characteristics that define a tag and make it distinct from other tags in the system. Tag properties include the tag's name, area, description, input/output device address, and other characteristics. In your VTS application, tag properties are viewed and configured in a tag properties folder.

A tag properties folder appears differently for each type of tag in the system, according to each specific tag's characteristics. Two tag properties folders are shown below.

Two examples of tag properties folders are displayed above. The first image displays the tag properties folder for an analog input tag, while the second image displays the tag properties folder for digital input tag. Note the common features: the existence of tabs at the top of each folder, and the OK and Cancel buttons.

Each tag properties folder, although customized according to the type of tag it represents, features common elements. A series of tabs run across the top of each tag properties folder. When clicked, each tab displays more fields in keeping with the topic labeled on the tab. (For example, referring to the analog input tag properties folder, you would see I/O device settings if you were to click on the I/O tab.) Each tag properties folder also features an OK button that saves any configuration changes made and closes the folder. Finally, each folder features a Cancel button that allows you to abort any configuration changes made and closes the folder.

Viewing and modifying tag properties is accomplished using the shortcut menu.

The tabs and fields of each tag properties folder are quite different, therefore each folder is described in greater detail wherever it is applies throughout this guide.

Note: The ability to view and modify the properties of a tag is a user privilege that may not have been granted to you by your VTS developer. Your VTS developer can inform you what privileges have been assigned to you, and whether your role involves viewing or modifying tag properties.
