The VTS Application Manager (VAM)

When you run VTS, the VTS Application Manager, also referred to as the "VAM", opens on your screen.

Note: Your VTS application may have been configured to auto start; if your VTS application opens immediately, and you do not see the VAM, please proceed to The Display Manager.

The VTS Application Manager, or "VAM".

The VAM consists of the Application Type drop-down list, the Available Applications list, and a series of command buttons. These elements are described below.

Application Type Drop-down List

The Application Type drop-down list can be used to filter the Available Applications list so that you can find your VTS application more easily.

Available Applications List

The Available Applications list displays a list of the VTS applications that can be run from the VAM. In the event that there are many applications appearing in the Available Applications list, you may use the Application Type drop-down list the list to help you find your application more easily. If you are unsure of the name of your VTS application, ask your VTS developer.

VAM Command Buttons

Of the command buttons featured on the VAM, you will be using only the Run/Stop button, the Help button, the About VTS button and the Exit button.

Run/Stop Button

The Run/Stop button is a toggle button. A toggle button is like a switch in that it can perform two functions, switching from the current setting to the other setting when the button is pushed. The VAM's Run/Stop button enables you to start and stop your VTS application. When the application is selected in the Available Applications list, the Run/Stop button can either start the application (if it is not yet running), or can stop the application (if it is already running).

You may notice that the Run/Stop button's label switches between Run and Stop when your VTS application is selected in the Available Applications list, depending upon whether it is running or not. If your VTS application is not yet running, the Run/Stop button is labeled Run, indicating that you can click the button to run the application. Once your VTS application is running, you may notice that the Run/Stop button is labeled Stop, indicating that you can click the button to stop the application.

Help Button

The VAM's Help button opens the VTS on-line help files, including the on-line version of this VTS Operator's Guide. These help files open on your computer screen in their own window, allowing you to refer to help concepts while you are working with your VTS application. The help files have a table of contents, an index, a search function and glossaries to assist you in getting the answers you need.

About VTS Button

The About VTS button opens a display screen where the VTS software version number, copyright, and creators of VTS are displayed.

Exit Button

The Exit button allows you to close all VTS applications and exit the VTS program.

Advanced Functions of the VAM

The remaining command buttons provide access to the advanced functions of the VAM, including adding new applications, editing applications, compiling applications, removing applications, and viewing the properties of applications. Advanced functions of the VAM are outside the scope of the VTS Operator's Guide. If you require information on these functions, please refer to "VTS Developer's Guide:  The VTS Application Manager: VAM Command Buttons".
