Capturing Data in a Memory Trace File

The Memory Tracer application can be used to capture memory trace data to an encrypted text file for analysis.

Capturing Data to the Default Memory Trace File

Note: By default, VTS creates a default memory trace file in the format of an encrypted text file named, "MemTrace.txt", which is stored within the MemTrace subdirectory within the VTS installation directory (e.g. C:\VTS\MemTrace\MemTrace.txt).

To capture data to the default memory trace data file, click the Capture button. The button will read "Capturing" while data is being saved to the specified text file. When the capture is complete, the button will read, "Capture".

Capturing Data to a Non-Default Memory Trace File

Click the Pick File button. The Capture File dialog will open and allow you to create a new file or select an existing file to which memory trace data will be captured.

Note: In the case of an existing file, its data will be overwritten with the newly captured data.

Navigate to the directory that contains (or will contain) the memory trace file to which you wish data to be captured.

Select the existing memory trace file to which you wish data to be captured, OR

Enter a name for the new memory trace file to which you wish data to be captured.

Click the Save button.

Note: If the selected file is an existing file, you will be prompted as to whether you wish to overwrite its data. Clicking Yes will overwrite the data in the existing file, while clicking No will cancel the operation.

Click the Capture button. The button will read "Capturing" while data is being saved to the specified file. When the capture is complete, the button will read, "Capture".
