Destination Section of the Database Conversion Utility

The Destination section allows you to select an origin database to which data will be converted from the destination database specified in the Origin section.

The Destination section is divided into two smaller sub-sections:

Selection; and

Status.

These sections are described in detail below.

Selection Sub-section of the Destination Section of the Database Conversion Utility

The Selection sub-section of the Destination section of the Database Conversion Utility consists of the Selection field, the Select button, and an indication of the type of database file that has been selected as the destination database. You may use the Select button to browse to the destination database of your choice, or you may choose to manually enter the path to the destination database in the Selection field. Optionally, you may enter a path, name, and extension of a destination database that does not yet exist, and VTS will create the database file for you. Again, this must be either an Excel spreadsheet (*.XLS), or a Microsoft Access database file (*.MDB).

Once you've specified the destination database, the type of database you've chosen will be displayed to the left of the Select button (e.g. "XLS File" or "MDB File"). If you have selected a non-compatible or unknown database type, "No Match" will be displayed.

To the right of the "Select" button is an indication of the availability of the selected file. This area will display "Found" if the origin database was successfully located and read, or "Not Found" if the selected origin database file has not yet been created (in the event that you wish VTS to create a new database file for you).

Status Sub-section of the Destination Section of the Database Conversion Utility

The Status sub-section of the Destination Section of the Database Conversion Utility displays statistics on the number of tables and records located in the destination database file, along with a status indication which may be one of the following:

      [Not Found] – If the status indication reads "Not found", the database file specified in the Selection field has not yet been created by VTS;

      [Unknown] – If the status indication reads "Unknown", there is no database file selected, or it was not found;

      [Creating] – If the status indication reads "Creating", a data source for the database is being created;

      [Connecting] – If the status indication reads "Connecting", a connection to the database is being established;

      [Error] – If the status indication reads "Error", a connection to the database could not be established;

      [Scanning] – If the status indication reads "Scanning", the database is in the process of being scanned;

      [Scanned] – If the status indication reads "Scanned", the database has been successfully scanned;

      [Writing] – If the status indication reads "Writing", the database is in the process of being written; or

      [Written] – If the status indication reads "Written", the database table and record information has been written from the origin database.

ODBC Status Report Following a Scan of the Destination Database

Following a scan of the destination database (if an existing destination database has been specified), the ODBC Status Report area will provide information on the Destination Database Scan Results, including data such as:

      The path of the destination database;

      The SQL queries used to access the data in each of the database tables; and

      Any reported error codes, the status of the error, and a message defining the cause of the error.

If you chose to specify a new database file that has not yet been created, the ODBC Status Report will not yet display any information.
